I joined my friends for a day trip to Notranjska, a region towards the southwest of Slovenia, not far from Ljubljana. We had a couple of sights marked and started with Planinsko polje. This large plain gets flooded a couple of times a year and makes for an awesome sight. It was not the right time though.

We randomly spotted some ruins on a hill and drove up to find a beautiful abandoned church. However we found no associated name.

Next stop was a late Gothic Ravbar's Tower, but it was being renovated. Planina cave is located nearby so we strolled towards the entrance. I think the cave was closed at the time and a visit inside would require booking a tour. They do offer a boat tour, which should be fun.

Another interesting stop was Haasberg castle, the ruins of the once mighty Baroque castle. It was built at the beginning of the 17th century and was considered the mightiest Baroque castle on Slovenian soil at that time. However it was burned down in 1944 and not much besides the outer walls is left.

We also stopped at Cerknica town and Lake Cerknica, an intermittent lake. When full, it is the largest lake in the country. We struggled to find water at the time. A visit after some heavy rains in autumn should prove more prudent.
