Nina and I spent two days in central Slovenia, under Kamnik-Savinja Alps as she booked us a night at the amazing House Raduha (more here). We made a short detour on our way to visit Velika Planina, a Karst plateau north-east of Kamnik. Reaching it is fairly easy - there's a cable car from the valley of Kamniska Bistrica which takes you all the way up to the alpine meadow. Check the timetables and price list here. Then you can take a walk around the lovely herdsmen settlement or simply hop onto another ski-lift to shorten that walk. Velika planina is a plateau of vast meadows, mooing cows, unique wooden cottages and fantastic views of Kamnik-Savinja Alps.
